"She invented the story to lure back an ex-boyfriend by pretending he had fathered a child he did not know about, said Delrish Moss, a spokesman for the Miami Police Department. When the boyfriend showed up and asked to see the child, Moss said, McCormic told him the boy was missing." - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb - via Bookmarklet [1 wks 2d ago]

"Some items on the list, like oats or eggs, aren’t all that surprising to experienced budget shoppers. But a few, like kale, wild rice or garbanzo beans, may not be regulars in your shopping cart. Not surprisingly, none of the foods on this list are prepared or processed, meaning that healthful eating on a budget will require more time in the kitchen." - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb - via Bookmarklet [1 wks ago]

"Hoving, a biologist at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, is in a position to know what he's talking about, too. He recently completed his doctoral thesis on the reproduction of deep-sea squid. He studied 10 different species, from mini-squid measuring just 25 millimeters (one inch) in length to 12-meter (40-foot) giant squid. Among Hoving's striking findings: Squid bite during sex, males drive sperm packets directly into the skin of females and brutal wrestling is part of their mating ritual." - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb - via Bookmarklet [1 wks 2d ago]

"Yet for all their oddball ambitions, no great love had ever bounced Mr. Spigel and Ms. Raney’s way, until their individual passions collided in 2004 on the set of “Extreme Dodgeball,” a cable television program then broadcast on the Game Show Network, in which teams with funny names and even goofier outfits did battle in a studio roughly the size of half a tennis court." - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb - via Bookmarklet [1 wks 1d ago]

Oh how the architecture nerd in me LOVES me some Schindler homes. - Derrick geekandahalf [1 wks 1d ago]

I was really disappointed in the aritcle yesterday. They dust off this article and run it every 18 mos. I had almost hope they didn't stick to the same houses again. I've seen all these houses already. There are a ton of other cool houses in LA that aren't these 10. Like that cool-see through modern ranch in the hills of Sherman Oaks (bonus on that one is the landscaping is drought-tolerant marvel, or the Japanese ranch in Mt. Washington. - Anika Malone faboomama [1 wks 1d ago]

Anika, I'd love to hear your list. I'm familiar with the Greene and Greene and craftsman in Pasadena, but I'm always up for anything related to residential architecture. - Derrick geekandahalf [1 wks 1d ago]

I'd love to rock a FF/Twitter LA architecture tour, if others would be interested. - Derrick geekandahalf [1 wks 1d ago]

Derrick, I do 7 LA architecture tours a year. 3 of them with groups. Sometimes the homeowners will let you inside and take photos, sometimes they're ready to cal 911, the moment you slow down. :) My real passion isn't just a building, but neighborhoods by architects. Like my neighborhood was designed, planned and built by one guy. You can see the 4 main styles he chose and the differences with each. Like my house looks like my neighbors, but I have a basement. He doesn't. - Anika Malone faboomama [1 wks 1d ago]

I was just at an amazing house over in Manhattan Beach last night. Sure they are all squeezed together, but this house was still sweet. Add on the rooftop lounge/porch and I was hooked. - Amani mirthnadir [1 wks 1d ago]

"Lorenzo was awakened shortly before the dawn, not by his alarm but by the loud low rumble of the earth and the awful crashing that followed. Living in an area recently wracked by earthquakes, most people immediately knew what was happening ....People gathered near the water, thinking it the safest place to be, but 10 minutes after the main shock the sea began to recede from shore. Boats at anchor tottered and hit bottom. There were two words in Italian to describe what was happening, one native (maremoto) the other borrowed from Japanese (tsunami)." - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb - via Bookmarklet [1 wks 1d ago]

"Some policy makers are focused on staving off the opposite problem — deflation, or falling prices, as demand weakens to the point that goods pile up without buyers, sending prices down and reducing the incentive for businesses to invest. That could shrink demand further and perhaps even deliver the sort of downward spiral that pinned Japan in the weeds of stagnant growth during the 1990s." - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb - via Bookmarklet [1 wks 1d ago]

We may be there already. Interest rates are near zero which doesn't stimulate investment or saving. But as Christmas showed, people aren't *spending* that money either. Are we paying down debt? Supporting unemployed family? A few folks are calling for a upturn in 2009, but I'm skeptical. - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb [1 wks 1d ago]

"The fact is that when you're No. 1, you always get blamed for everything. When you're No. 3, or No. 5 -- or No. 135 -- you can put your hands in your pockets and whistle tunelessly with a "Who, me?" look on your face, and no one ever asks any questions. Take Slovakia. Five years ago, Slovakia invaded Iraq. Admittedly, it did this with the help of a few other countries. But still, does Slovakia ever get the blame for all the trouble that has gone down over there since then?" - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb - via Bookmarklet [1 wks 1d ago]

"With its fresh flavor, pleasing bubbles and gentle price tag — it typically sells for $10 to $20 a bottle — prosecco has gained many fans worldwide. Global sales have been growing by double-digit percentages for 10 years, to more than 150 million bottles last year. And with consumers in an economizing mood this holiday season, prosecco is an increasingly popular alternative to Champagne, which has been soaring in price. But prosecco is also encountering some growing pains. From its traditional home in northern Italy, it is now waging a war against outsiders, just as Champagne, its more elite cousin in France, has done for so many years." - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb - via Bookmarklet [1 wks 1d ago]

I <3 prosecco honestly. The best ones are crisp and fruity and fresh, and you can snag some good ones for 1/3 the price of a low-end bottle of Champagne. It's perfect for turning any day into a special occasion. - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb [1 wks 1d ago]

"Maybe he saw a female that was ready to change the perspective the common folk had on female coaches in regards to coaching boys. Maybe he knew she would step up and help the young fellas when they were in need of some love and support. Maybe she was the right to one to help send the boys to college on scholarships. Maybe she would be the one to be there to help point guard Tyrell Cruz after he went home to find that his mother had hang herself. Or maybe she would be the one to help feed the boy whose mother was a drug addict. Maybe she would be the one to buy him milk, cereal, bread and other groceries and give to him to take home in a duffle bag on Fridays so he can bring it back the next week to her office so she could refill it for another week’s worth of groceries." - tiffany. lowercase 't' tiffanyb - via Bookmarklet [1 wks 1d ago]
