"Thirty years is a long time for a musician to perform with little recognition. Such is the case of Victor Démé. The World's Marco Werman tells us what it took for the 47 year old singer to come out with his first album." [http://www.theworld.org/taxonomy_by_date/2/20090105]

"Victor Démé inherited music from his mother, a griot that celebrated all the major weddings and christenings of Bobo Dioulasso in the 60's. She left him her poignant voice." [http://www.chapablues.com/]

while it may be too early to speak of an 'end-game' for the Gaza fighting, i'm curious to know if anyone has thoughts on the role Sumud plays in the overall picture and what effect (if any) it has on the percieved winners/losers in this latest conflict.

Stefan Tilkov posted a link to a proposed RFC from Mark Nottingham on registering and using rel values in HTTP Link Headers.
here's a teaser: This document defines typed link relations, independent of the context they occur in. It does so by clarifying the status of the link relation registry established by Atom, and registering in it the relations that are defined by HTML.

A REST-Discuss thread pointed me to a MIME type that i had totally forgotten about: text/uri-list. it's defined in RFC2483 Section 5. here's a snippet: Several of the resolution service requests, such as I2Ls, I2Ns, result in a list of URIs being returned to the client. The text/uri- list Internet Media Type is defined to provide a simple format for the automatic processing of such lists of URIs.
here's a simple example: # urn:isbn:0-201-08372-8 http://www.huh.org/books/... http://www.huh.org/books/... ftp://ftp.foo.org/books/foo.txt
presents some interesting possibilities...

i'm also plowing through Mark Lutz's works - pretty comprehensive. Pilgrim is giving me a good quick start; Lutz is giving me a good background and reference. and, yes, only after i start to *do* something *useful* w/ Python, will i really know what i've learned. so that's my next step.

i just stumbled upon this tweet from HenryStory about a little known (to me, at least) HTML keyword: <keygen>. this keyword can be used to prompt the browser to generate an SSL cert and pass it to the server. the server can then sign it and pass data back to the browser that will result in a fully-installed SSL cert. much easier than prompting users to walk through the maze of manually downloading and installing certs. details on this cool element are covered in a whatwg discussion thread. the real details appear in an attachment from one of the messages. below is one of the more enticing descriptions of the attachment I'm sure that if more people knew about this attribute and how to use it, it would be used in a lot more areas. It can be used within big companies that relies on strong security for their employees when they want to access company data from the outside, example mail or administrative web tools. Internet banks can also use this. They would/should only use standarized...
