"The Virtual Economy already worth $1.2 billion and estimated to reach $6bn by 2010 (notes from the Virtual Goods Summit). Virtual goods will survive the hype, moreover, triggered from the mobile phone in combination with social media sites such as Facebook, Bebo or MySpace, this will create new revenues other then advertising. Micro payments systems such as Spare Change (powered by PayPal) and Zong let users move cash into the system, and applications like Mob Wars have gathered as much as $1 million per month from micropayments."

"Most people think Twitter was “created” in 2006. These are same people who think Richard Gere created Buddhism in the 1990’s. Just before Madonna created yoga. Folks, like the sun, moon, and stars, Twitter has always been. This site proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt."

"Over the holidays, Kraft launched a new Facebook application that promised users when they added it to their profiles, Kraft would donate six meals to hungry families via the Feeding America charitable organization. In less than two weeks, 25,000 Facebook users had added the application to their profiles equating to 1.4 million donated meals. Kraft set a goal of donating 3.2 million meals through the application (see the ad pictured above). The plan seems to be working so far."

"The most obvious manifestation of this is mobile consumption. New mobile devices and platforms such as the iPhone and Google Android are focused on improving the search and Web experience. This will fuel searches from mobile devices; iPhone users enter a disproportionate number of mobile search queries, though other devices are catching up." * "These include blogs, social networks, photo sharing sites, Twitter, Wikipedia, and countless other social sites that tend to rank increasingly well in search engines. That means marketers have to shift their mindset from optimizing their Web site to optimizing their Web presence. "

"British experts said that if white phosphorus had been used in an area as densely populated as Gaza then Israel might have committed a war crime.
'If phosphorus was deliberately fired at a crowd of people someone would end up in The Hague,' Charles Heyman, a former major in the British Army, told the Times.
Meanwhile civilians were claimed to have borne the brunt of the casualties on the first full day of Israel's invasion of Gaza as the death toll from the nine-day onslaught soared past 500 yesterday."

"White phosphorus (WP) is a flare- and smoke-producing incendiary weapon,[1] or smoke-screening agent, made from a common allotrope of the chemical element phosphorus. White phosphorus bombs and shells are incendiary devices, but can also be used as an offensive anti-personnel flame compound capable of causing serious burns or death.[2] The agent is used in bombs, artillery shells, and mortar shells, short range missiles which burst into burning flakes of phosphorus upon impact. White phosphorus is commonly referred to in military jargon as "WP". The slang term "Willy(ie) Pete" or "Willy(ie) Peter", dating from the First World War and common at least through the Vietnam era, is still occasionally heard.
White phosphorus weapons are controversial today because of their potential use against civilians. While the Chemical Weapons Convention does not designate WP as a chemical weapon, various unofficial groups consider it to be one."
